Continue reading this blog to learn some tips on how to maintain healthy, strong bones.

Tip #1: Include a Good Amount of Calcium in Your Diet

This tip may be a more obvious one, however, it is easy to let this one go in your day-to-day lifestyle.

Did you know we consistently lose calcium in our body through our nails, hair, and sweat?

A calcium-rich diet enables our muscles to contract and keeps our bones healthy and protects them. The average man or woman needs about 1000-1200 mg of calcium in their everyday diet to maintain strong and dense bones.

Be mindful of your calcium intake to ensure dense bones.

Tip #2 Soak in lots of Vitamin D

There is no doubt that vitamin D has many benefits for bone health. Our bodies need vitamin D in order to effectively absorb calcium - so these two tips are essential to your overall bone health.

Did you know that vitamin D is actually a hormone?

This is because our bodies have the ability to produce vitamin d when we are exposed to sunlight. It is difficult to receive an adequate source of vitamin D from foods, other than some fish, which is why it is important to get out and move your body.

Tip #3 Move Your Body Frequently

Daily exercise, whether it is intense or a simple walk, is vital to your bone health. Since bones are living tissues, moving your body consistently allows them to adapt and strengthen, resulting in denser bones. The following are some exercises you can do to strengthen your bones – both high and low-impact:

High-Impact:

  • Weight lifting

  • Running

  • Rock Climbing

  • Interval Training

Low-Impact

  • Water aerobics

  • Walking

  • Stretching

Tip #4 Avoid Substance Abuse

This can be any substance but especially alcohol and tobacco can lead to weaker bones. It is important to watch your consumption as you get older. Everything in moderation and overdoing a substance can lead to lots of damage later on in life.

Healthy and strong bones will lower your risk of developing the bone disease, such as osteoporosis. You may also suffer from frequent fractures or broken bones as a result of your bones become fragile, brittle, and weak. Other conditions can include osteogenesis imperfecta, infections, and/or cancer.
