Preparing for the New Year Ahead with Your Best Foot Forward | Mountain Surgery Center

couple staying active to maintain healthy bones

Nearing the end of 2022, we reflect on our accomplishments, progress, and those things we want to improve in the coming year. As we prepare for 2023, our hope is to make it the best year yet, and sometimes the majority of those goals are centered around our health and wellness.

Mountain Surgery Center is here to help you prepare for this next year with healthy habits you can partake in. Most people have trouble staying committed and consistent with their New Year’s goals, so get out a journal and paper you are going to want to take some notes that you can look back on to check your monthly progress.

1. Maintain Healthy Bones

In order to maintain healthy bones, you must consistently stay active. Staying active can be as intense as training for a race or weight-lifting 4 times a week or it can be as simple as walking outside for 10 minutes a day.

Physical activity will not only drastically improve your physical health but also boost your serotonin levels and clear any brain fog you may be experiencing. Depending on your current healthcare concerns and/or limits you should consult a physician before developing your consistent wellness movement routine.

Additionally, it is important to consume enough proteins and veggies to fuel your bones. Diets with low calories are harmful to your bones, as they deprive your body of necessary nutrients, and prevent you from developing strong ones.

2. Stick to a Consistent Sleep Schedule

According to Dr. Daniel Barone, a neurologist and sleep expert, it is critical to keep a regular sleep schedule and get 8 hours of sleep each night.

With the increased technology and research there are so many ways to maintain a consistent sleep schedule, such as the new ‘Sleep’ feature on iPhones, investing in an alarm clock with various settings such as relaxing noises, and even supplements, like L-Theanine, that be purchased on amazon to help with sleep.

Work to establish a healthy wake-up and wind-down time that you can maintain throughout the week and on weekends.

You can still sleep in on weekends but try to stick to a schedule that will be similar to your Monday-Friday times to avoid any complications.

3. Protect Yourself from Being Exposed to Harsh Chemicals that Can Harm Your Physical Health

Every day, we are exposed to so many particles in the air and chemicals that can be detrimental to our overall health.

Most of these products are being used every day and most people are not even aware of their harm so it is important to always pay attention to the ingredients listed and do your research on what you are using to clean your house, on your skin, and hair, and ingesting as food or drinks. Harmful chemicals such as butane can be found in hair products such as hairspray and dry shampoo.

Mountain Surgery Center is here to provide excellent healthcare to all our patients and their loved ones. Understand that developing habits can take some time - not all of these will be achieved overnight. Resolutions can be helpful with monthly check-ins with yourself or sharing your goals with a close friend or family member. We want you to take on 2023 feeling healthier than ever!
