Making a Difference

The medical field is one of the fastest growing industries around the globe and consists of a variety of essential workers that help to keep quality service in motion. Here, at Mountain Surgery Center (MSC), our team members are like family, each holding an important role that allows our facility to generate the best care for our patients and promote a premier work environment for physicians. The people who work with us at MSC aren't just the most knowledgeable and skilled but are caring and compassionate healthcare workers who strive to make a difference, every day.

Often when you think about the people behind the process of a well-functioning medical facility, you think about the nurses, doctors, or even the receptionist who scheduled your visit and/or procedure. But what we rarely pay attention to are the lesser known but equally vital team members who work behind the scenes to ensure your health and wellness from beginning to end.

One essential member of our team and MSC family is Gauden Sanchez, a sterile processing technician working under the Sterile Processing & Distribution department (SPD).

The Role of a Sterile Processing Technician & The Impact

An SPD acts as the central service of our facility under the Sterile Processing & Distribution department (SPD). Gauden Sanchez is a loyal member of our team who started with us back in 2018. With over 12 years of experience, Gauden is responsible for manually cleaning, disinfecting, and decontaminating all equipment and supplies from the operating suites. This meticulous sterilization is the foundation for a safe and healthy procedure. In addition to sterilizing all surgical equipment, she works to prepare and package the instruments and equipment that will be needed for future procedures.

Gauden takes on an important responsibility in ensuring that all instruments required for surgery are delivered steam, sanitized and in accordance to the highest regulations and standards. In addition, she provides documentation of all the instruments that need to be delivered to the operating room (OR) for a procedure. Once there is a record of every apparatus the equipment can then be distributed to the OR's.

Her role as a sterile processing technician is crucial to maintaining the wellbeing and safety of our patients and physicians at all levels of patient care as she is responsible for helping to prevent the spread of infection by certifying that all instruments are disease-free.

Her attention to detail and meticulous concentration directly affects patient outcomes and allows us to manage our positive reputation by offering access to quality and sterile outpatient surgical procedures. Pictured below, the second SPD to the right is Gauden Sanchez.
